MECAS es un espacio de encuentro y conversación para cineastas y productores/as independientes que tengan películas de ficción, no ficción, narrativas, no narrativas o con carácter experimental, películas con una firme  voluntad cinematográfica y una mirada personal. Propuestas que se alejen de etiquetas, tendencias y convencionalismos, historias con mucho ruido o mucho silencio, que conmuevan al espectador/público y que nos hagan navegar por sueños o universos desconocidos.

PARA PODER PARTICIPAR EN MECAS, CINE CASI HECHO

  • Tu proyecto debe de estar CASI HECHO, esto puede ser,  acabas de empezar a editar tienes un primer corte o un corte final, ya estás en fase de postproducción o bien todavía estás en últimas etapas de filmar. 
  • Para la valoración puedes enviarnos un enlace con la duración del corte que tengas preparado en el momento de esta convocatoria y que estés seguro/a de querer compartir. También puedes enviarnos un teaser largo o preparar un montaje con varios clips. 
  • Durante la celebración de MECAS solo proyectaremos un corte de aproximadamente 15 minutos (puedes seleccionar una parte de la película o preparar un clip con varios momentos distintos).
  • Tu proyecto finalizado deberá tener una duración mínima de 60 minutos.
  • Puede ser una película de ficción, no ficción o de lo que transita  en medio.
  • Deberá ser una producción de Europa y/o Latinoamérica.
  • Todavía no cuenta con distribución o con agente de ventas.
  • Todos los solicitantes deben completar el formulario para proyectos de CINE CASI HECHO en: ENTRY ALMOST FINISHED FILMS (enlace a formulario)

INFORMACIÓN SOBRE LA SELECCIÓN 

  • Los proyectos MECAS 2024 serán seleccionadas por tres personas, una dentro de la organización de MECAS y el Festival y dos asesores externos.
  • Se seleccionará para la participación, un máximo de 10 proyectos y un mínimo de 8.
  • En esta 7ª edición de CINE CASI HECHO, uno de los proyectos participantes ya ha sido invitado a través de la colaboración entre MECAS 2024  y FICXPro SEMILLERU Lab 2023 del  Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón.
  • Uno de los proyectos seleccionados estará dirigido por un autor y/o una autora de Canarias o bien producido por una productora canaria.
  • Uno de los proyectos seleccionados será susceptible de filmarse en Canarias o bien tendrá el potencial para ser coproducido por una productora local. 
  • Cada película seleccionada será notificada de manera individual y la selección final se publicará en abril. Esta invitación oficial llegará solo a los participantes proyectos seleccionados al contacto indicado en el Entry.

INFORMACIÓN SOBRE LA PARTICIPACIÓN 

  • Antes del evento, el equipo de MECAS y el equipo de cada proyecto mantendrá una reunión por videoconferencia para aclarar dudas y el funcionamiento de participación de MECAS. Esta reunión servirá para detallar los puntos a continuación: 
  • MECAS se hará cargo del alojamiento de un máximo de tres (3) noches de hotel y dietas de una persona representante de cada proyecto, preferiblemente el director/la directora o bien el productor/ la productora. No obstante,  sugerimos a cada proyecto que lo acompañe en  MECAS más de una persona del equipo. 
  • Para los participantes LATAM la organización dispondrá  de una ayuda  para los traslados en avión, pero no puede hacerse cargo de los viajes completamente.  Se estudiará cada caso individualmente.
  • Todos los participantes presentarán su proyecto ante los expertos/as MECAS que serán: representantes de festivales, mercados y labs internacionales, comisariado, empresas productoras y distribuidoras, agencias de ventas y representantes de fondos cinematográficos.
  • El idioma de presentación de los proyectos será en inglés. Si esto supone un problema MECAS pone a disposición a un traductor para los participantes que lo requieran.
  • Las presentaciones se hacen como una conversación abierto al público (los/as expertos/as), esta conversación será  entre el equipo de cada proyecto y un moderador/representante de MECAS. 
  • Cada equipo contará con el mismo tiempo para la presentación de su obra y posterior encuentro.
  • MECAS preparará una agenda de reuniones. Cada participante tendrá la oportunidad de reunirse con los/as expertos/as que mejor puedan apoyar su proyecto. 
  • Todos los participantes deberán asistir a las actividades organizadas por MECAS. 

PREMIOS 

  • Premio MECAS Cine Casi Hecho: Un jurado oculto entre los/as expertos/as, otorgará un premio en metálico de 8000 € (impuestos incluidos) que puedes emplear en el proceso de finalización de la obra.
  • Premio Music Library & SFX .
  • No habrá menciones especiales.
  • Al finalizar MECAS, el ganador deberá presentar toda la documentación administrativa para recibir el pago más un Plan de Gastos del premio en metálico. 

COMPROMISO DE LAS PERSONAS PARTICIPANTE AL ACEPTAR LA INVITACIÓN A MECAS

  • Los datos e información que se incluirán en el Infobook MECAS 2024, disponible  para los/as expertos/as y participantes del mercado, serán los recogidos en la hoja de inscripción, que ha sido completada por cada participante. La veracidad, exactitud y corrección de los datos aportados en español e inglés son responsabilidad de las personas participantes.
  • Los equipos de los proyectos seleccionados se comprometen a proporcionar a MECAS la información complementaria en los plazos requeridos para la elaboración del Infobook.
  • Los equipos de los proyectos seleccionados se comprometen a proporcionar a MECAS los archivos de proyección – con subtítulos en inglés si son necesarios - en los plazos requeridos por el equipo de proyección y técnica del Festival y MECAS.
  • El nombre y logo de MECAS, Mercado del Cine Casi Hecho / Festival de Cine de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria deberán insertarse en los créditos de todos los proyectos seleccionados, una vez terminados y en el caso de que tu proyecto sea ganador, deberá insertarse en los créditos iniciales de la película terminada. 
  • MECAS se reserva el derecho de utilizar las fotografías de los proyectos y cineastas enviadas por el o la titular que presenta el proyecto a MECAS para su promoción, anuncio en web y redes sociales. Asimismo, podrá utilizar las imágenes tomadas durante la celebración del evento para promoción, comunicación y realización del making-of.  
  • Con el fin de mantener un contacto y seguimiento de cada proyecto y de compartir los éxitos/logros que cada uno va sumando, los participantes se comprometen a mantener comunicación con el equipo de MECAS cuando surjan noticas de las selecciones en Festivales y de otros premios obtenidos. De esta manera podremos apoyar y hacer difusión del recorrido de las obras que han pasado por MECAS en nuestras redes sociales.
  • La participación implica la aceptación de estas bases.  

POR FAVOR TEN EN CUENTA LO SIGUIENTE:

  • La fecha límite para enviar proyectos a esta convocatoria es el día 31 de enero de 2024 a las 23:59h UTC+1.
  • El equipo de MECAS es muy pequeño y no podemos comunicarnos con todos los proyectos inscritos, por tanto, enviaremos la notificación oficial solo a aquellos proyectos seleccionados.
  • Si el 31 de marzo no has recibido una comunicación por nuestra parte quiere decir que tu proyecto NO ha sido seleccionado.  

MECAS / Festival de Cine de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,  entidad organizadora de MECAS, se reserva el derecho a realizar modificaciones sobre las presentes bases o añadir anexos sucesivos, que serán comunicados debidamente durante el período que comprende la actual convocatoria.

MECAS is a meeting and dialogue space for independent filmmakers and producers with fiction, non-fiction, animation, narrative, non-narrative or experimental films, with a strong cinematographic will and a personal look. Projects that move away from labels, trends and conventions, stories that make a lot of noise or a lot of silence, films that move the audience and that make us surf through unknown universes or dreams.

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN MECAS, ALMOST FINISHED FILMS.

  • Your project must be ALMOST FINISHED, this could be, you have just started editing, you have a first cut or a final cut, you are already in postproduction or you are still in the last stages of filming.
  • You can send us a link with the length of the cut that you have ready at the time of this call for entries and that you are sure you want to share. You can also send us a long teaser or prepare a cut with several clips.
  • During the celebration of MECAS we will only screen a cut of about 15 minutes (you can select a part of the film or prepare a clip with several different moments).
  • Your finished project must be at least 60 minutes long.
  • It can be a fiction, non-fiction or anything in between.
  • It must be a European and/or Latin American production.
  • It does not yet have distribution or a sales agent.
  • All applicants must complete the form for ALMOST MADE FILM projects at: ENTRY ALMOST FINISHED FILMS (link to form).

SELECTION INFORMATION

  • MECAS 2024 projects will be selected by a committee of at least three people, one from within the MECAS organization and the Festival and two external advisors.
  • A maximum of 10 projects and a minimum of 8 will be selected for participation.
  • In this 7th edition of  ALMOST FINISHED FILMS, one of the participating projects has already been invited through the collaboration between MECAS 2024 and FICXPro SEMILLERU Lab 2023 of the Gijón International Film Festival.
  • One of the selected projects will be directed by an author from the Canary Islands or will be produced by a Canarian production company.
  • One of the selected projects will be susceptible to be filmed in the Canary Islands or have the potential to be co-produced by a local production company.
  • Each selected film will be notified individually and the final selection will be published in April.
  • The official invitation will be sent only to the participants of the selected projects to the contact indicated in the Entry.

INFORMATION ABOUT PARTICIPATION

  • Prior to the event, the MECAS team and the team of each project will hold aan online meeting to clarify doubts and the functioning of MECAS participation. This meeting will serve to detail the following points:
  • MECAS will pay for up to three (3) nights hotel accommodation and per diem for one person representing each project, preferably the director or the producer. However, we suggest that each project be accompanied at MECAS by more than one person from the team.
  • For LATAM participants, the organization will provide assistance for air travel, but cannot take full travel expenses. Each case will be studied individually.
  • All participants will present their project to the MECAS experts who are: representatives of festivals, international markets and labs, curators, production and distribution companies, sales agencies and representatives of film funds.
  • The language of presentation of the projects will be in English. If this is a concern, MECAS will provide a translator for those participants who request it.
  • The presentations are made as an open conversation for the audience (the experts), this conversation will be between the team of each project and a moderator/representative of MECAS.
  • Each team will have the same amount of time for the presentation of their work and following dialogue.
  • MECAS will prepare a meeting schedule. Each participant will have the opportunity to meet with those experts who can best support their project.
  • All participants must attend the activities organized by MECAS.

PRIZES

  • MECAS Cine Casi Hecho Award: A hidden jury among the experts will award a cash prize of 8000 € (taxes included) that will be used in the process of finalizing the work.
  • Music Library & SFX Award.
  • There will be no special mentions.
  • At the completion of MECAS, the recipient must submit all administrative documentation to receive payment plus a plan of expenses of the prize in cash.

PARTICIPANTS' COMMITMENT WHEN ACCEPTING THE MECAS INVITATION

  • The data and information to be included in the MECAS 2024 Infobook, available to experts and market participants, will be those included in the registration form, which has been completed by each participant.
  • The veracity, accuracy and correctness of the data provided in Spanish and English are the responsibility of the participants.
  • The selected project teams undertake to provide MECAS with the complementary information within the deadlines required for the preparation of the Infobook.
  • The selected project teams undertake to provide MECAS with the screening files - with English subtitles if necessary - within the deadlines required by the Festival's projection and technical team and MECAS.
  • The name and logo of MECAS, Mercado del Cine Casi Hecho / Festival de Cine de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria must be inserted in the credits of all selected projects, once finished, and in the event that your project is the winner, it must be inserted in the opening credits of the finished film.
  • MECAS reserves the right to use the photographs of the projects and filmmakers sent by the project holder who submits the film to MECAS for its promotion, web and social media advertisement.
  • Likewise, it may use the images taken during the celebration of the event for promotion, communication and making-of.
  • In order to maintain contact and follow up on each project and share the successes/achievements of each one, the participants agree to maintain communication with MECAS team when news of the selections in Festivals and other awards obtained arise. In this way we will be able to support and promote the progress of the works that have been selected by MECAS in our social networks.
  • Participation implies acceptance of these rules.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • The deadline for submitting projects to this call is January 31, 2024 at 23:59h UTC+1.
  • MECAS team is very small and unfortunately we cannot communicate with all the registered projects, therefore, we will send the official notification only to those projects that have been selected.
  • If you have not received a communication from us by March 31st, it means that your project has NOT been selected.
  • MECAS / Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Film Festival, the organizing entity of MECAS, reserves the right to make changes to these rules or add subsequent annexes, which will be duly communicated during the period covered by the current call.
