Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Saturday, April 26, 2025. The Film Conferences have returned to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as part of the 24th International Film Festival, and with another full house. Its protagonists, Javier Gutiérrez, Nathalie Poza, Bárbara Lennie and Carolina Yuste, who belong to different generations of Spanish cinema and have won plenty of awards, including several Goya, were accompanied by film critic Carlos del Amor. Before talking to the audience that filled the Alfredo Kraus Auditiorium’s Cámara Hall this Saturday morning, they shared a moment with the mayor of the Gran-Canarian capital, Carolina Darias, and the councilman of Culture, Josué Íñiguez.
During the open discussion with their film buff audience, the four of them told anecdotes and talk about certain aspects related to their way of facing a job they consider “a privilege”: a trade that for Nathalie Poza has a lot of craftmanship and daily work; a romantic component that requires continuous connection with the public, according to Javier Gutiérrez, who also said, citing Michael Caine, that this job “is not a part-time or a full-time job, it is a 24-hour obsession”; an absolute vocation, claimed Bárbara Lennie when she explained that, for her, giving up this trade would be like “giving up your soul”, and “magic” for Carolina Yuste, who noted that she came to the art world by other paths, but that by putting herself to the test and stepping onto the stage she discovered a profession that “hooks you”.
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, organized by the Culture area of the Gran-Canarian capital’s City Council through Promoción de la Ciudad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has received public assistance by the ICAA [Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts], the Visitors’ Program for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE), of the Spanish Public Agency for Cultural Action (AC/E), as well as public support from Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias.
Among the Festival’s collaborators we may find Fundación Auditorio Teatro, Cines Yelmo, Las Arenas Shopping Center and Hotel Cristina by Tigotan, places which also function as venues or hold activities of the film event; as well as other institutions and companies such as Sagulpa, Toyota, Royal Bliss, Fuze Tea, Coca Cola, Sholeo Lodge, Audiovisuales Canarias, Music Library &SFX, Blackout Films and International Bach Festival. Likewise, its market, MECAS, has been possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Gran Canaria Film Commission-Sociedad de Promoción Económica de Gran Canaria and the support of Proexca.
