Since January 2017, he is the Deputy Director and Head of Programming of the Spanish institution that preserves the national film heritage, Filmoteca Española. Member of the Programming Board of the German Film Festival in Madrid, he has also been working as a programmer for Festival Mapfre 4+1, DocumentaMadrid, and some other festivals. As a journalist and film critic, he was responsible for the film section of El Cultural, part of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, between 1999 and 2016. He was also Editor-in-Chief of Cahiers du cinéma: España from 2007 to 2010, the foundation years of this publication. He has published in Film Comment, Sight & Sound and other international and national publications, and frequently writes film reviews for El Cultural, Sofilm Spain, Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos, etc. He was the Artistic Director of TAI University of Arts (Madrid) between 2011 and 2014, where he taught Cinema History and Aesthetics, but currently he only gives occasional film lectures in various universities and film schools. He is the author of Elogio de la distancia. Dos miradas a un territorio (2009), an essay on Felipe Vega’s cinema and Julio Llamazares’ literature, and has published in several collaborative books, such as Los poetas del cine (2003), Cine español para el nuevo siglo. La mirada contemporánea (2007), Nouvelle Vague. Los caminos de la modernidad (2009), Fatih Akin. El hogar errante (2009), El universo de Clint Eastwood (2009) or La medida de los tiempos. El cortometraje español en la década de 2000 (ALCINE, 2010). He has been part of the official juries of many film festivals such as Mar del Plata International Film Festival (Argentina), Curtas Vila do Conde Festival (Portugal), Cali International Film Festival (Colombia), International Film Festival of Ljubljana (Slovenia), International Short Film Festival “Almería en Corto” (Almería), Alcances, Muestra cinematográfica del Atlántico (Cádiz), ALCINE (Alcalá de Henares), DocumentaMadrid (Madrid), the Ibero-American Short Film Contest “Versión Española / SGAE” or the International Documentary Film Festival Punto de Vista (Pamplona).
