Jorge Tur is a documentary filmmaker who also works both as general coordinator and as professor in Directing and Screenwriting of the Masters in Theory and Practice of Creative Documentary Filmmaking at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He began as a student of that Masters program after having graduated from the University of Valencia with a degree in Psychology. He has directed films such as De función, Si yo fuera tú, Me gustarían los cicatriz, Russian diary, Ja arriba el temps de remenar les ciceres and Castillo, which received an award for Best Short Film at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival.
Tur has won national and international awards in festivals such as Vila do Conde, Dei Popoli, Sitges, Cinespaña, Transcinema, Alcances and Documenta Madrid. His films have been screened at Bafici, Doclisboa, Visions Du Réel, Taiwan, Tampere, among others.
He has also participated in exhibitions like D-Generación: experiencias subterráneas de la no ficción española (D-Generation: Subterranean Experiences of Spanish Nonfiction), organized by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Film Festival, which included films from the experimental cinema and creative documentary scene shot in new areas of production.
Jorge Tur is also the coauthor of the book Territorios y Fronteras 2. Emergencias y urgencias en el cine documental español, edited by the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. He has also been a member of the subsidy committee of Colombia’s Film Development Fund in the category of Screenwriting.
His latest film, Tell Me About Sanchicorrota, was the winner project at the X-Films initiative of the Punto de Vista Festival, and was also included in the retrospective “La última risa: una historia alternativa de la comedia española” (The Last Laugh: An Alternative History of Spanish Comedy), which was held at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York. His next film is called Si la toma está bien, ¿para qué hacemos otra? Tur has also worked as a psychologist and as coordinator of a film workshop at a psychiatric center.
