Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host a new edition of the Film Conferences during the Film Festival. On Saturday 20, at 11:30 am in the Jerónimo Saavedra Hall of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, Luis Tosar, Leonardo Sbaraglia, María León and Greta Fernández will share their experiences on the acting craft in a talk moderated by Carlos del Amor, deputy head of the Culture Department of Televisión Española’s News Services and voice of the Goya Awards.

Attendance to the fourth edition of this event, promoted by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and produced by 18 Chulos, will be free of charge, although tickets must be collected prior to it. They will be available at the Auditorium and Theater Foundation’s usual channels, with links enabled as well at lpafilmfestival.com and lpacultura.com, starting tomorrow, Thursday, April 11.

The conferences are supported by the city’s film community and by the followers of the Film Festival, who every year sell out the seats for the meeting. This fourth edition maintains its philosophy and will get a feel for the current state of the acting job with four different profiles and well-established talents. In the Jerónimo Saavedra Hall will meet, therefore, veterans and new faces of the industry. In any case, actors with plenty of experience in films, but also regulars in acclaimed tv series. All five of them, including the moderator, are confessedly passionate about their profession.

Luis Tosar, Leonardo Sbaraglia, María León and Greta Fernández are equally at home in film and television fiction, working in both national and international productions. Between the four of them, they have five Goya Awards, three Silver Shells at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and over a hundred nominations for various awards and festival attendance around the world.

Luis Tosar

The Galician actor is one of the most versatile in Spanish cinema. With a huge filmography totaling over 130 films, Tosar has given life to tough, cold, sensitive, tender and also funny characters. Nominated up to ten times to the Goya Awards, he has won three of them for his work in Fernando León de Aranoa’s Mondays in the Sun, Icíar Bollaín’s Take My Eyes and Daniel Monzón’s Cell 211. Her character of Malamadre in Daniel Monzón’s film is part of the history of Spanish cinema. With his role as an abuser in Icíar Bollaín’s piece, he also won the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. He has received, too, a Golden Astor Award at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival (Argentina) and two awards at the Miami International Film Festival, among other recognitions.

Leonardo Sbaraglia

This internationally renowned Argentinean actor has become an essential part of Spanish fiction. Winner of a Goya for Intact, by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, he has been nominated three times. In Argentina he’s obtained two Silver Condor Awards, two Martín Fierro Awards and four nominations to the Sur Awards. His international projection is reflected on his multiple award nominations in Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles, Uruguay, Portugal, Mexico and Brazil. Sbaraglia has appeared in both films and tv series, even obtaining an Emmy Award nomination for the tv series Epitaphs.

María León

The actress from Seville has been nominated three times for the Goya Awards, having won one for The Sleeping Voice, a film for which she also received the Silver Shell for Best Actress at San Sebastian. María León has combined film and television. She has played comic and dramatic characters to which she has infused her personal and charismatic style. Last year she starred in Close Your Eyes, Víctor Erice’s latest work, and presented series such as Noche de chicas, El hijo zurdo and Mentiras pasajeras.

Greta Fernández

Despite her youth, this Catalan actress has become one of the essential faces of current Spanish cinema and has been nominated for numerous film awards: Goya Awards, Feroz Awards, Fotogramas de Plata, José María Forqué Awards, Gaudí Awards, Unión de Actores or Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos Medals. For A Thief’s Daughter, a film by Belén Funes in which she shared the leading role with her father, Eduard Fernández, she won the Silver Shell for Best Actress at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Recently, Greta Fernández has made the international leap starring in the Argentinean film La llegada del hijo whose shooting has just finished.

Carlos del Amor, a moderator with a voice of his own

Ondas winner Carlos del Amor is one of the country’s most renowned journalists. Deputy Director of the Culture Department of Televisión Española’s News Services, he is responsible for iconic pieces of the public broadcaster. The journalist is also responsible for the interview show La Matemática del Espejo, now in its fourth season. In addition, he is the voice that, for more than 10 years, has been accompanying viewers during the Goya Awards broadcasts. His commitment to cinema, backed by 20 years of experience in the coverage of awards and film festivals as significant as the Oscars or the Cannes and San Sebastian festivals, among others, make him an extraordinary moderator for the event.
