➢ The short film Alegrías riojanas, by Velasco Broca, obtains a Special Mention
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Wednesday, April 19, 2023.- The feature film Inmotep (Spain, 2022, 65 min.) by Julián Génisson wins the Panorama Spain Award of the 22nd Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival. The jury of the section, made up of Elena Lazic, Magdalena Banasik and René Wolf, has announced their decision at a press conference held this Wednesday morning, April 19.
Among the six features and three short films competing in Panorama Spain, the jury highlighted Inmotep as a “film with a bold and intriguing formal language, that we feel perfectly expresses the almost ineffable but essential quality of modern day living: a sense of disconnect and artificiality, and the feelings of isolation and terror that can come with them. A proudly digital effort; a dialogue-free, playful and captivating thriller; this film ensures we will never look at stock photos the same way again.” The Festival will give a prize of 5,000 euros to its director Julian Génisson.
The jury has also awarded a Special Mention to Velasco Broca’s Alegrías riojanas (Spain, 2022, 28 min.). They’ve stressed, from the Alava-native filmmaker’s short film, “its spirit of unleashed creativity, its stunning and unforgettable images, its confident voice and thrilling originality.”
Likewise, Elena Lazic, Magdalena Banasik and René Wolf have congratulated the programmers of the Panorama Spain section for “putting together a selection of films that were all thought-provoking, pushing cinema towards new and exciting horizons.” When a screening consisted of two pieces, “the way in which they were paired together was also very inspired, each enriched and deepened by the one that played alongside it,” they noted.
The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, organized by the Culture area of the Gran-Canarian capital’s City Council through Promoción de la Ciudad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has received public assistance by the ICAA [Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts] and the program for the internationalization of Spanish culture, PICE Visitantes, of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
