V29 MARCH · 10 PM. · THE PAPER CLUB (C/ Remedios, 10)
The release of Firekid ended up being one of the best news out of 2018, and it came as no surprise that it ended up being featured in most of the relevant “best of the year” lists in our country. Behind the mirror we find Alice Wonder, already stripped of that dangerous portrait forged in the social networks, out of which came an excellent collection of stripped covers of great artists like Lana del Rey, Bon Iver or Damien Rice, to name just a few. Produced by Ángel Lujan with the collaboration of Jorge González (producer and keyboardist of Vetusta Morla, respectively), the album includes some songs that Alice Wonder had already anticipated at the beginning of 2018 – Strategy, Clean up the mess or Too mad – along with new compositions like Playgame or her only song Spanish to date, Bajo la piel. Alice took this album as personal challenge, so she took a step beyond recording her songs to voice and guitar or piano. She wanted to experiment, and had the almost casual collaboration of Martí Perarnau IV (Mucho). Her deep voice is interspersed with groove soul, the alchemy of trip-hop and the sound of 90s indie music. Through personal experiences and unique images, her lyrics help us to identify the different layers and universes that coexist inside her. An avant-garde album that wanders between Fiona Apple, St. Vincent or Little Simz.
