A graduate in Journalism, Gloria Fernández’s passion for cinema leads her to collaborate in the cultural section of several local magazines, to launch a film show on a local television and to participate in the productions of films such as EL VIAJE DE ARIÁN, by Eduard Bosch. Combining her tasks as head of the press and studies department in the Acceso Group Company, she publishes Antonio Banderas’ first authorized biography in 1995. In 2003, she decided to embark as an editor for CineAsia, the first Asian film magazine in Spain and sponsoring company for events related to oriental filmmaking.
As one of the founders and directors of CineAsia, Gloria Fernández has assisted in various publications as well as coordinated and written books, which include Diez Años de Terror Asiático: 1995-2005 and Johnnie To: Redefiniendo el Cine de Autor for Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, or El Cine de Hong Sang-soo, Brillante Mendoza. Retratando la realidad filipina and (De)construyendo a Apichatpong Weerasethakul for the Gijón International Film Festival. She has also collaborated in scripts for DVD and Blu-ray editions for different distributors, such as EL NIÑO Y LA BESTIA, DOLLS or HARA-KIRI among others. Combining her work as a teacher in film schools such as La Casa del Cine, and universities such as the International University of Catalonia (UIC), the University of Barcelona or the University of Málaga (UMA), she is currently a programmer for the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (where, among other tasks, she selects short films for the Official Section of the Festival and also for the Nova Autoria section) and the Granada-Cines del Sur, and collaborates regularly in other festivals, institutions and cultural centres such as Fundación La Caixa, Korean Cultural Centre in Madrid, Casa Asia or the cinemateques in Catalonia, Extremadura, Murcia or La Rioja.
