• This concert and screening program will take place from March 22 to 31 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Thursday, February 21.- The Monopol Music Festival (MMF) is still filling up its concert program with two new projects, Mucho and Alice Wonder, who join Nacho Vegas, the first artist confirmed. MMF’s program is part of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival’s contents, which will be held from March 22 to 31.

Alice Wonder will be Friday’s, March 29, guest artist at The Paper Club (Calle Remedios 10 – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Together with Nacho Vegas, she will give a concert starting at 10 pm. Tickets, priced 20 euros in advance (25 euros at the ticket’s office) are already for sale at monopolmusicfestival.com and playhit.es. On the other hand, Mucho will be one of the bands that will put an end to this edition’s live concerts on the Plaza de Santa Ana’s traditional open-air concert scheduled for March 30’s evening.

Mucho, a project led in solitary by Martí Perarnau IV, will present in Gran Canaria his last album, recently released and entitled ¿Hay alguien en casa? (Kartoffel Kollektiv, 2019). This work could be seen as a turnabout in his career, since he renounces to musicians and orchestration to follow on his own a path that banks on casiotones and synthesizers’ electronic sounds to put together, single after single, a barely conceptual work on musical matters that faces through its lyrics some issues that arise, precisely, of his decision of pursuing a career unaccompanied: solitude in a world where everybody has access to communication. It is a brave, bold work, which, if listened to from beginning to end, becomes a somewhat message-with rave. Mucho started in 2010 and has already produced three albums, among which Pidiendo en las puertas del infierno stands out as a precursor of this new work, a battering ram for his new songs which was also recorded using synthesizers and keys. From their beginnings, when they created mainstream pop/rock, to nowadays, there is a vital and artistic evolution that is mostly noticeable through Perarnau’s way of singing. Throughout his career, Martí Perarnau IV has collaborated with Iván Ferreiro, Tulsa, Egon Soda, Berri Txarrak and Zahara, for whom he composed Hoy la bestia cena en casa.

Alice Wonder will join Nacho Vegas on March 29’s night at The Paper Club. She is regarded as an Instagram artist, since she started to get attention thanks to the numerous fifteen-second videos she posted on this social network, in which she versioned artists such as Bon Iver, Damien Rice or Lana del Rey, and which granted her a lot of followers. Once she overcame her shyness, she released her first EP called Take Off, that ended up being the prelude to her first album, Firekid (Infarto Producciones/BMG, 2018), produced by Ángel Luján in collaboration with Jorge González, Vetusta Morla’s keys player. In this album, Alice’s deep voice is subjected to a sonority in which Soul’s fondness intermingle with Trip Hop’s alchemy and 90s’ Indie, while the lyrics, full of experiences and personal pictures, reveal the different layers and worlds living inside of Alice. The record wanders in between Portishead, Fiona Apple or Little Simz.

As for Nacho Vegas, he will be accompanied on his next visit to the island, fifteen years after his first one in October 2004, by his regular band, made up of three members of León Benavente, Abraham Boba (keys and guitar), Luis Rodríguez (bass) and Edu Baos (guitar); in addition to Manu Molina (drums) and Joseba Irazoki (guitar). César Verdú, another member of León Benavente, completes the crew as this tour’s sound technician; he is being touring for a long time with this group of musicians, who offer one of the best live concerts of Spanish music.
