“Being a woman and being poor is a double punishment”. The population of imprisoned females represents the lack of protection that Mexican women endure in a country with a chaotic judicial system. The most terrifying thing one discovers in Mexican prisons is not only the infrahuman conditions in which those women live – the majority of the inmates of Tepepan (a prison located in the South of Mexico DF), confess it is as torturous living within the prison walls as living outside them.
